About GOH-Migrants

With the changes of demographic structure and the openness of policy on foreign labor force, the number of New Southbound countries friends in Taiwan has risen to around 780,000 thus far. Most of them are from Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines, who work, study or short-term stay in Taiwan.

The Garden of Hope serves without borders, irrespective of race, color or creed. In 2010, the Garden of Hope ran the Ministry of Labor’s toll-free 1955 Hotline for migrant worker consultation and protection. Since 2011, GOH-Migrants expanded services to transitional shelter for female migrant workers, accompanied interrogation of human trafficking victims, integrated services center for migrant women and children and so forth. In the meantime, GOH-Migrants has been engaging in providing professional trainings for social workers to acquire new knowledge and enhance skills in working with foreign populations. Besides being familiar with immigration laws, criminal and civil laws, labor laws, and gender equality laws, GOH-Migrants has been endeavoring in building the multicultural-centered concept in service provision, and establishing the cross-cultural and cross-professional systematic methodology in working with foreign friends in Taiwan, while continuing improving the efficiency of communication and the efficacy of coordination of the service provision system.

Since 2019, the Garden of Hope values and takes action in response to the diversity of migrants in Taiwan; therefore, the GOH-Migrants team has pioneered empowerment in its service module. Through establishing and managing migrant communities, GOH-Migrants has accompanied migrants to make good use of time in Taiwan, assisted migrants with different identity statuses and needs to live their lives to the fullest in terms of skills and competencies, work capacity, along with stable physical and mental conditions, and broadened their horizons in exploring the potentiality of their future lives. Meanwhile, the GOH-migrants team is the connecting point of Taiwan society and migrant communities.
