If you want to give birth here in Taiwan, you need to be strong, really strong, because you are all alone here. And then you have to really had a strong mindset for you to, especially if you don’t have a partner here, it’s only friends who can help. You really have to be tough because you are all alone, there’s no family here.

As of December 2021, the total number of migrant workers in Taiwan is about 670,000, of which women migrant workers account for the majority at 350,000, over half of the population (53%). Most of the women migrant workers aged between 25 and 40. Gradual transition from one life stage to aother is natural to all women, such as falling in love, getting married, becoming pregnant, and raising children. However, what makes these women migrant workers extraordinary is that they are working in a foreign country. It turns out that motherhood and childcare are of great challenge to them.
